Research Policy Analyst Family Policy at Stand Together

Junior Remote Posted 25 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

The Koch Associate Program (KAP) is a career accelerator for early to mid-career professionals with a drive to tackle our country’s most pressing challenges in more effective, principled ways. KAP equips associates with the tools, mindsets, and community to succeed as social entrepreneurs—individuals excited to find new and better ways to break barriers and eliminate injustice. Associates spend one day each week engaging in experiential learning with Stand Together Fellowships and work at one of our many partner organizations the rest of the week. Our curriculum is designed to supercharge your development and equip you for long-term success as you seek to have an impact on the problems that prevent people from realizing their potential.

IW’s Policy Analyst (for Family Policy) is responsible for following, analyzing, researching, writing, and speaking on policies related to child care, paid leave, and broader family policy issues for IW. She will produce thoughtful policy content that builds support for flexible, family-centered policy solutions that expand choice and affordability without significant government expansions. She will serve as a resource whenever IW’s family policy efforts or the larger organization need support on issues related to child care, paid leave, and family economic security.

She must be comfortable working to advance IW’s mission and share our core values, be a team player who is happy to say “yes” to any and all tasks, and be knowledgeable about the family policy landscape and broader policy and communications environment. She should be a self-starter who is detail- and results-oriented.

With hard work, IW’s Policy Analyst (Family Policy) could gain invaluable skills, develop subject-matter expertise, grow a network of relationships, and advance into a role that offers even more opportunities to contribute content for IW. Initially, however, the role is focused on offering support to IW’s policy team and existing policy experts and staff.

Who We Are:

Independent Women® ‘s trusted experts, analysis, and data enable us to drive informed conversations to build support for better policy solutions. We are different, in that we successfully talk to not only the conservative base, but to centrist women independents, and Millennials/Gen Z helping them embrace policies and approaches that improve lives.

IW operates as a virtual office. While we maintain regular working hours, our virtual office means staff spends more time getting things done and less time sitting in traffic. Still, we understand the importance of personal relationships,which is why we remain in constant daily communicatio n and hold regular staff and department calls.

Types of Activities Include:

  • Stay abreast of federal and state policy debates related to child care, paid leave, and family policy, and keep IW leadership informed;
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and identify opportunities to advance IW’s policy approach;
  • Support policy staff with research and drafting of content for IW platforms;
  • Draft policy papers and issue briefs related to family policy;
  • Draft blogs and op-eds on developments in child care, paid leave, and related issues;
  • Create and maintain resources tracking key legislation, regulations, and policy trends;
  • Work with the State Affairs team to draft content for Action Centers and other advocacy materials;
  • Engage with stakeholders, families, and policy experts to inform IW’s work;
  • Work with government officials and coalitions on proposed legislation and reforms;
  • Collaborate with the Independent Women’s Network team to develop campaigns and engagement opportunities;
  • Alongside IW Comms, support messaging and communications strategy on family policy issues; and
  • Potentially participate in videos and other marketing materials.

Applicants for this job should possess:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to translate complex policy into clear, compelling content;
  • A strong interest in family policy, including child care and paid leave;
  • A “yes” attitude and strong self-directed work ethic;
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • Ability to work remotely without significant daily oversight;
  • Willingness to travel sporadically throughout the year as needed.

  • Stay abreast of federal and state policy debates related to child care, paid leave, and family policy, and keep IW leadership informed;
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and identify opportunities to advance IW’s policy approach;

  • Collaborate with the Independent Women’s Network team to develop campaigns and engagement opportunities;
  • Alongside IW Comms, support messaging and communications strategy on family policy issues; and
  • Potentially participate in videos and other marketing materials.
